What Does Kelley Blue Book Think of the New 2019 Subaru Outback?

The auto industry's leading research and valuation experts didn't mince words: our automaker's latest wagon-become-modern SUV is "one of the most versatile, dependable, and desirable family vehicles on the planet." But its appreciation didn't stop there.

One of KBB's favorite features: standard X-MODE®, pairing with equally standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. It helps reduce wheel slip, bringing throttle response, braking, and stability control systems in sync with Hill Descent Control, which slows and controls Outback during steep downhill driving. Bring Active Torque Vectoring into the mix, and cornering precision's all but assured. Plus, a towering 8.7 inches of ground clearance, says the pro reviewer, gives it a leg up on AWD-equipped competitors like Volkswagen Alltrack and Buick TourX. Needless to say, we can see prospects here for adventuring off the beaten path around Thousand Oaks.

The writer's enthusiasm then went on to encompass the crossover's ton of standard driver-assistance technologies (EyeSight®, a Subaru-exclusive suite, is a mainstay of every trim) as well as its top-of-the-class crash test ratings (it earned five stars overall from the NHTSA). The "huge interior," however, got a mention as "one if [the] best traits." The hype's true: the cabin measures anywhere from 104.5 to a whopping 108.1 cubic feet for passengers, with up to 73.3 for cargo when you collapse the rear seating. Better yet, you can make even more room, we could say, by towing a trailerful behind -- a new 2019 Outback can haul a respectable 2,700 pounds when properly equipped. That's plenty for taking a toy or two out of Camarillo for a weekend getaway.

Of course, its fuel economy was just as well-thought-of, too (Outback is "as reliable as it is efficient," in fact). Expect up to 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway with a CVT, according to EPA estimates, and there's plenty more to look forward to here on Auto Mall Drive.
